Brighton & Hove Albion defender Charlie Tasker has signed a new contract with the club following an impressive season that saw him break into the first-team setup.
The 19-year-old academy graduate, who joined the Seagulls at the age of eight, made a smooth transition from the under-18s to the under-21s last season.
He featured in 15 Premier League 2 matches and caught the attention of first-team boss Fabian Hürzeler, earning a place in the senior matchday squad during the second half of the campaign.
Tasker’s consistent performances and rapid development were acknowledged by under-21s head coach Shannon Ruth, who praised the young defender’s journey and attitude.
“We’re really proud of what Charlie has achieved since he joined us at the age of eight,” Ruth said. “He made really good progress last season in the under-21s and deserved to make the step-up to first-team squad involvement. He really enjoyed being around that environment and we’re delighted he’s signed a new contract.”
Tasker’s inclusion in first-team training reflects his growing potential as one of the club’s rising football stars.
While the contract details remain undisclosed, the deal signals Brighton’s intent to nurture homegrown talent and provide a pathway into the senior squad.
As the Women’s International Football scene heats up with Brazil vs Japan friendlies and breakout moments like the Fujino assist and Kerolin performance drawing global attention, clubs across the board are also investing in their youth systems — and Brighton is no exception.
Tasker’s journey underscores the importance of strong academy foundations and patient development.
With many eyes now focused on emerging talent from clubs like Brighton, his story is one to watch in the coming seasons.
