Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic will miss the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup after undergoing surgery to treat an Achilles injury, the club confirmed on Monday.
The Croatian international, 30, has been sidelined and will not travel with Pep Guardiola’s squad to the United States for the prestigious tournament in June.
The operation was deemed necessary following a persistent issue, and the midfielder is now set for a lengthy recovery over the summer months.
