Liverpool, 31 May 2025 — Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen after triggering the €35 million release clause in his contract — approximately £29.5 million.

The club will pay the fee in three annual instalments, with the transfer to be finalised once the window opens for 10 days on Sunday.

There is already total agreement on all aspects of the deal, though it will only become official after the weekend.

Frimpong, who is 24 years old, is not considered a like-for-like replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who recently moved to Real Madrid.

Instead, he offers versatility across the right flank, capable of playing as a right back, right wing-back, or in a more advanced wide right role.

Despite recently winning the Premier League, Liverpool are pushing ahead in the transfer market to build on their success.

The club aims to strengthen squad depth, increase competition for places, and provide new manager Arne Slot with more tactical flexibility.

Another motivating factor behind the move is the anticipation that Mohamed Salah could miss part of the season due to international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this winter.

Frimpong already has established links within the Liverpool squad, having played with fellow Dutch internationals Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo.

Interestingly, Liverpool have tracked Frimpong since he was nine years old, when they first tried to recruit him to their academy.

Now, 15 years later, the club have finally secured their long-term target.
