Matt Preston Commits to Hereford for 2025/26 After Standout Season
Defender Matt Preston has officially signed a new deal with Hereford FC ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, reuniting with centre-back partner Kyle Howkins to anchor the Bulls’ back line once again.
The agreement was confirmed this week as the club looks to build on last season’s defensive success.
Preston was a consistent and commanding presence throughout the 2024/25 season, making 45 appearances and helping Hereford concede fewer goals than any other side in National League North.
His efforts earned him the coveted Player’s Player of the Season award — a clear sign of the respect he commands in the dressing room.
Proven Partnership Returns to the Heart of Defence
With Preston and Howkins back together, Hereford have re-established one of the most reliable centre-back pairings in the league.
Their chemistry and discipline were instrumental in creating the league’s stingiest defence — a foundation Hereford manager Paul Caddis is eager to maintain.
“I don’t have to reintroduce ‘Prezzy’ to our supporters after a brilliant season last year,” said Caddis.
“Matt was voted our player’s player of the season, so it shows you the appreciation he has within the dressing room from his peers.”
Caddis Praises Consistency and Character
Caddis was full of praise for Preston’s contributions and leadership, highlighting his importance as the club faces another competitive season.
“I am delighted we have managed to retain Matt after a really successful season with us, putting in a number of outstanding defensive displays across the season,” Caddis added.
“‘Prezzy’ will be a really important player for us yet again, going into another tough season ahead. I am really, really pleased to have him with us again.”
