Radcliffe Sign Ex-Wrexham Star Callum McFadzean
Left-sided defender adds experience and ambition to Boro’s squad ahead of new season.
Radcliffe FC have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of seasoned left-back Callum McFadzean on a one-year deal, with an option for extension.
The 31-year-old arrives at the Neuven Stadium after a decorated career spanning England’s Football League and beyond.
McFadzean, who last played for Wrexham during their rise through the divisions under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a winning mentality to the club’s dressing room.
The move was sealed quickly, with McFadzean citing the club’s ambition and the vision of its management team as key factors.
A Career Built on Promotion and Purpose
A graduate of the Sheffield United Academy, McFadzean first made waves by breaking into the Blades’ first team and representing England at youth level.
Loan spells helped shape his game before a stint at Kilmarnock in Scotland added international flavour to his journey.
The turning point came at Bury, where McFadzean helped guide the club to a League One promotion finish, only to face heartbreak as the club was expelled from the Football League shortly after.
His response? A stellar season with Plymouth Argyle, again earning promotion from League Two. That success led to a move to Sunderland, where he played the full 90 minutes in the EFL Trophy Final win at Wembley.
Wrexham Glory and a New Challenge
In 2021, McFadzean joined Crewe Alexandra, but quickly found himself at the heart of Wrexham’s ambitious project under Phil Parkinson.
He played a key role in the club’s back-to-back promotions and featured in another Wembley final — this time, the FA Trophy — adding to an already impressive résumé.
After leaving Wrexham last summer with his reputation intact, McFadzean took his time considering his next move — until Radcliffe came calling.
“It Had to Be the Right Fit”
Speaking in his first club interview, McFadzean shared his excitement:
“It’s one of the quickest deals I’ve done in my career. I’m delighted to be here and I can’t wait to get going. The ambition from the gaffers and the Chairman align with what I want to do.”
He credited former teammate Nicky Adams with encouraging him to join and praised the club’s culture:
“When I had my first chat with the gaffers, they came across exactly the same as what I am — honest, hardworking, and driven. That’s one of the main reasons I signed.”
What It Means for Radcliffe
This signing marks a major statement of intent from Radcliffe as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
With McFadzean’s experience in both promotion-winning squads and high-pressure matches, he brings invaluable leadership to a team aiming to rise further through the non-league pyramid.
